The New Adventures had been published monthly since The Pit in March 1993. After this novel, the Bernice books reverted to the original bi-monthly schedule. While this was partly due to the drop in sales after Virgin's loss of its license to publish Doctor Who material, and the narrower range of appeal of the Benny books, it was also a natural consequence of many of the Virgin staple authors now writing primarily for BBC Books' new Who novels.
